LivewireAU Six Pack: Supergroups And Growing Pains

Ocean - Nick Marks

A thoughtful song for thoughtful people, ‘Ocean’ by local Brisbane artist Nick Marks perfectly captures the earnest gentleness and melancholy of floating in space - or in this case water. Written during a time of limbo following the break down of a relationship, Nick perfectly encapsulates the dark yet hopeful feeling you experience when you’re just keeping your head above water and waiting for better things.

Marianne - Not Gonna Lie

My excitement over this supergroup cannot be contained! Bringing together the creative talents of Nicole McKinney, Georgie Neilsen and Lucy Francesca Dron, Not Gonna Lie bring us their debut single ‘Marianne’. Even before listening, I was captivated by the tarot-style cover artwork and the powerful femininity it exudes. Showcasing their emotive songwriting and stunning harmonies, their 3 voices blend together in a mix of alt-folk-rock magic. This track certainly has me excited for things to come!

For fans of: Daisy Jones and The Six, GIMMY, Fleetwood Mac

Forecast - Jinx

It must be the season for supergroups because my next pick sees two best friends turned musical duo with Jinx’s ‘Forecast’. This debut single that combines sounds from Kalopsia and Monet’s Pond is drenched in groove, interweaving my favourite aspects of the two solo projects into one cosmic package. Immediately drawn in by the drum groove and rolling synths, this song tastefully glides through your brain waves reaching a soaring chorus accented by percussive samples and 70’s inspired bass.

For fans of: KAYTRANADA, PNAU, L’Imperatice

Fever - Zzade

Bringing industrial rock to the daily grind is Zzade with their latest installment ‘Fever’. This track is hard hitting, exposing the pressures Zzade feels when navigating the social ladder and expectation to grow and expand in an ever evolving industry. Written with satircal tongue-in-cheek lyricism and abravise production, this song is an explosion of energy to get you through the mid week slog.

For fans of: Royal Blood, St. Vincent, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

All My Love - Earth to Josh

Hooked in by the jangling and washy guitar sounds, I stayed for the dreamy and expansive vocals of ‘All My Love’ by Earth to Josh. With ethereal dream pop and shoegaze textures shaping its soundscape and production, “All My Love” channels emotion. The song evokes a melancholic beauty, exploring the lasting emotional ties and the bittersweet journey of letting go. With an album on the way at the end of November, I’m excited about this dreamy installment to the project.

Healing Old Wounds - Inanna Indigo

‘Healing Old Wounds’ from Inanna Indigo ebbs and flows reflecting the natural push and pull and unravelling of emotional healing. This track evolves and unfolds in so many stages, beginning with delicate cello melodies and ukulele before swelling into an emotional chorus. Written over the span of three years, it reflects writer and Wotjobaluk Frontwoman Indigo McKeon’s own process of navigating grief, loss, and the rediscovery of hope which this is palpable within the music. Sitting just over 6 minutes long, it’s one to sit back and let wash over you.

For fans of: Aurora, Lianne La Havas, Yebba
